Beer Can Chicken

Looking for recipes to cook beer can (aka beer butt, drunken, dancing) chicken? Look no further!

For beer can chicken, it's best to go with the flow and be creative. Don't worry, it's easy to make beer can chicken and hard to mess up. Mix and match your choices for liquids and seasoning. Take risks and try several matchings to find your favourites.

Seasoning

  • Your favourite poultry seasoning
  • Paprika (paprika helps make that golden colour)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Your favourite BBQ sauce

Liquid

  • Favourite beer
  • Favourite cider
  • Favourite cooler
  • Can of pop
  • Can of juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the BBQ, smoker or oven. BBQ: medium/high heat. Oven: 350°F. Smoker: 350°F.
  2. Drink (or remove) half of the liquid from the can. Use the small cans (355 ml / 12 oz). If you don't remove the liquid, it will take too long to heat up and steam. PLUS there's nothing for you to enjoy!
  3. Season the outside of your chicken with your choice of seasoning.
  4. Place the can in the riding chicken stand and secure the chicken on the stand and on the can.
  5. Place your riding chicken in the oven, BBQ or smoker.
  6. Cook until the breast and thighs reach 165°F. About 45 min–1 hr in the oven or BBQ, and 1–1½ hours on the smoker. Rotate your chicken every 15 minutes.
  7. Let the chicken sit for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  8. Enjoy the moist-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside CHICK.

Spice tip: if you're into spices, try adding them directly into the can. For example, add fresh rosemary to your can of beer.

Hawaiian BBQ Beer Can Chicken

(The new up-and-coming beer can chicken.)

  1. Follow the steps above, except instead of using a can, carve out a pineapple to the same size and shape as a small 355 ml / 12 oz can. Choose any seasoning you enjoy for the outside of the chicken.
  2. Place the can-sized pineapple in the chicken stand and secure the chicken.
  3. Cook in the oven, BBQ or smoker.
